A Double Double is a brewed coffee with two creams and two sugars, and it might be the most ordered drink name in Canada. The term has been in the Dictionary of Canadianisms since 1985, it scales with the cup, meaning a large gets bigger creams and sugars than a small, and it costs exactly the same as the black coffee it starts from, because cream and sugar are free at Tim Hortons. What changes is the nutrition, and that is where this page earns its keep.

Double Double prices

SizePrice
Small, 10 oz / 296 mL$1.59–$1.65
Medium, 14 oz / 414 mL$1.83–$2.09
Large, 20 oz / 591 mL$2.07–$2.29
Extra Large, 24 oz / 710 mL$2.35–$2.69

The ladder is the plain brewed ladder, unchanged. A Double Double, a black coffee and a coffee with milk all ring up the same at every size, which is worth knowing when a third-party menu shows a Double Double priced above a regular coffee. It should not be.

Those figures come from the Tim Hortons nutrition guide numbers as republished by one of the listings this site cross-checks, and they hold up against the other check available: a second listing estimates a medium Double Double at 170 to 230 calories, and the guide figure of 200 sits inside that range. The arithmetic is mostly cream. Two medium creams account for about 120 of the 200 calories in a medium, the two sugars for about 70, and the coffee itself for 4.

The Triple Triple, and what is not published

A Triple Triple is three creams and three sugars, priced on the same ladder again. Beyond that, honesty is required: no listing we check publishes calories or sugar for a Triple Triple at any size, so this page prints none. It is plainly more than a Double Double at the same size, roughly another cream and sugar’s worth per step, but a specific number would be an invention. The same applies to the Extra Small size, which no listing prices or gives nutrition for in these builds.

Does cream and sugar change the caffeine?

No. The caffeine is in the coffee, and the coffee is the same cup whether it is black or a Double Double. What changes is calories and sugar only. Tim Hortons publishes no caffeine figures of its own, so treat any exact caffeine number for a Double Double as an estimate, as explained on the Nutrition and Allergens page.

Frequently asked questions

How many calories are in a medium Double Double?

About 200, per the nutrition guide figures republished in the listings, inside the 170 to 230 range another listing estimates. A medium black coffee is 4 calories, so nearly all of it is cream and sugar.

How much sugar is in a Double Double?

About 16 grams in a small, 21 in a medium, 27 in a large and 34 in an extra large. The sugar count scales with the cup because the two sugars are bigger in a bigger cup.

Does a Double Double cost more than a regular coffee?

No. Cream and sugar are free, so a Double Double, a regular and a black coffee all cost the same at the same size, $1.59 to $2.69 across the ladder.

What is a regular coffee at Tim Hortons?

One cream and one sugar. A medium regular lists at about 100 calories, exactly halfway between black and a Double Double, which makes the naming easy to remember.
